چکیده

Penning ionization of iodomethane (CH3I) and diiodomethane (CH2I2) upon collision with metastable He(2S) atoms was studied by collision-energy/electron-energy resolved two-dimensional Penning ionization electron spectroscopy (2D-PIES) over a wide range of collision energies (20 – 350 meV). Collision energy dependence of partial ionization cross sections (CEDPICS) indicates that the interaction with He*(2S) atoms around the valence molecular orbitals is attractive at low collision energies except for the only σCH molecular orbital region of iodomethane which has a repulsive character in the normal collision energy range (70 – 350 meV). Large bands at lower electron energies (3.7 – 5.5 eV) in PIES spectra were ascribed to autoionization from a transient ion-pair. The related entrance ionization channel has an attractive character. The excitation transfer, which is responsible for the I** autoionization, takes place in regions close to carbon atoms and is repulsive towards He(2S) in the normal collision energy range. The superexcited complex of (He–CH2I2)** autoionizes via the excitation transfer occurring close to the σCI regions of the targets.

Observation of anisotropic interactions and molecular orbitals of CO upon collision with He*(23S) atoms by two-dimensional Penning ionization electron spectroscopy

By collision-energy/electron-energy-resolved 2D Penning ionization electron spectroscopy as well as by theoretical calculations of the collisional ionization dynamics, the outer shape of molecular orbitals for ionization to X(Σ) and A(Π) states of CO was sensitively probed, and the anisotropy of the interaction between He*(2S) and CO was determined. Ionization to the B(Σ) state of CO was assign...

Rotationally induced Penning ionization of ultracold pho- toassociated helium dimers

– We have studied photoassociation of metastable 2S1 helium atoms near the 2 S1-2 P2asymptote by both ion detection in a magneto-optical trap and trap-loss measurements in a magnetic trap. A detailed comparison between the results of the two experiments gives insight into the mechanism of the Penning ionization process. We have identified four series of resonances corresponding to vibrational m...

The Possible Role of Penning Ionization Processes in Planetary Atmospheres

In this paper we suggest Penning ionization as an important route of formation for ionic species in upper planetary atmospheres. Our goal is to provide relevant tools to researchers working on kinetic models of atmospheric interest, in order to include Penning ionizations in their calculations as fast processes promoting reactions that cannot be neglected. Ions are extremely important for the t...

Photoassociation spectroscopy of cold he(2 ^{3}s) atoms.

We observe vibrational states by photoassociation spectroscopy of cold He(2 ^{3}S) atoms. Photoassociation resonances are detected as peaks in the Penning ionization rate over a frequency range of 20 GHz below the atomic 2 ^{3}S_{1}-2 ^{3}P_{2} transition frequency. We have observed three vibrational series, of which two can be identified. A possible mechanism to explain the observed increase o...

Calculation of the total cross section for the ionization of H, He, Ne and Ar atoms by bare ions at the high energy range

In the present work, the total cross-section for the ionization of  H, He, Ne and Ar atoms by +He2+ ، H+ ، Li3 ions has been calculated. In these calculations, a binary encounter approximation in the form of a two-body process between projectile ions and atomic electrons at the high energy range has been implemented. In order to enter the nuclear role of the target atom, the atomic electron vel...
